Wacom does not officially support Linux. Linux is usually maintained by the Wacom Linux project (which apparently has several developers working for Wacom). Supported devices are listed on this page with device IDs and model number in the input-wacom column.

Make sure your current kernel recognizes your tablet. Connect the appropriate tablet via USB or Bluetooth. If you control dmesg | grep -i wacom as real and specified in /proc/bus/input/devices (or directly in lsusb output when using USB) . If not, your only chance is that this tablet is supported by a much newer driver than your kernel. In this case, install the packaget input-wacom-dkmsAUR.

Install the xf86-input-wacom driver and restart X for the new udev rules to take effect.

List Tell xsetwacom if devices now suggests specific devices. Otherwise, see #Manual setup.

    Third Party Tablets

Will a Wacom tablet work with Linux?

Wacom does not provide a Linux driver directly, but a Linux driver is available for most Wacom devices from the Wacom Linux Project on Github. Many Linux distributions come with drivers preinstalled. So try connecting your device to your own Linux machine first to see if the concept works.

Arch Linux kernels also include the Digimend Racer, which is used for most third party tablets. If your tablet is new and doesn’t have many features, you can try digimend-kernel-drivers-dkms-gitAUR which might complement that. If these functions are unsafe, youYou can report the testing of the tablet to the authors of the Digimend driver and add its functions to the driver. Digimend diagnostic tools are available through the AUR. uclogic-tools AUR, lsusb and usbhid-dump are public tools.

These tablets are additionally recognized automatically, but it can be difficult to pair them with a Wacom tablet as some rare system programs such as GNOME tablet settings only recognize Wacom tablets Wacom tablet, add to /etc/X11/ xorg.conf .d/50-tablet.conf (create it, element if it doesn’t exist) add the following section, where VID:PID is your USB ID as lsusb sees it :

Section "InputClass" identifier "tablet" vacom driver MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*" Match USBID "VID:PID"EndSection

Actually, the Xorg driver can be temporarily configured with xsetwacom, start by looking at xsetwacom(1). The changes will be lost after reconnecting or restarting your tablet by the X host server.

Does Wacom tablet work with Ubuntu?

WACOM tablets have been supported by Ubuntu for some time now and work great outside the penalty area. Confirmed success on my Bamboo MTE-450 starting Ubuntu 9.04 and so you are 12.04.

For the get and set commands, devices can sometimes be specified by name or identity. The scripts should use names where the identifiers might change after the X server or just restart reconnect.

    Remap Buttons

X allows golfers to remap medicines and pen buttons. The buttons are labeled with numbers. Tablet buttons start at one, pen buttons start at 2 when invoked (1 is the touch event). By default, the X driver maps a Link M mouse button to almost four or more buttons, by default maps to 8 or more mouse buttons. While xorg.conf uses actual device numbers and can only direct you to buttons, xsetwacom mouse uses translated mouse button numbers and possible mapping to several key codes (but not key symbols).
